Professor appointed to Advisory Council

July 19 2011

Varcoe, Cr.jpgColleen Varcoe, Professor at the UBC School of Nursing, has been appointed to the Research Advisory Council (RAC) of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR). MSFHR’s mandate is to strengthen BC’s health research enterprise – which in turn improves the health of British Columbians, their health system and their economy. The RAC plays a key role in advising and making recommendations to MSFHR Board of Directors on all research and peer review issues (www.msfhr.org).

Dr. Varcoe is a recognized leader in research on women’s health, violence and inequity. She conducts research in community and rural settings regarding the health, economic and social costs of violence, substance use, and primary health care delivery and has conducted research on both violence and ethical practice in acute care settings. Her work informs policy makers on improving health care access for marginalized groups.
