Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing - Application Process

Before you apply to the PhD in Nursing Program, you are encouraged to review your personal goals and learning needs, and then contact the Graduate Advisor, Dr. Alison Phinney. Matters to consider include your research interests, potential supervisors, funding opportunities, and time commitments. There are five steps to admission to the PhD Program at UBC:

  1. Apply online
  2. Complete the Graduate Record Examination (General)

GRE scores are seen as an important predictor of your success in a graduate education program. Doing well is important, but it is not the only measure of your potential. We do not have a minimum score requirement, and scores will be weighed against the other information provided in your application. You are required to have completed the GRE exam by the January 31st deadline.
  3. Submit supporting documents to the Nursing Graduate Records Office
  4. Your application will be reviewed by the UBC School of Nursing Admissions Committee (PhD) and the Faculty of Graduate Studies
  5. You will receive formal notification from the UBC Faculty of Graduate Studies and from the UBC School of Nursing

The Faculty of Graduate Studies sets the minimum requirements for admission to all graduate programs at UBC. In addition to the general requirements, there may be specific requirements established for students originating from particular countries. Please review the specific requirements for your country.
