Student Accident Insurance Students must have the BC Medical Plan or its equivalent from another province in place in order to provide themselves with basic medical care.
Student accident insurance is an additional required insurance that provides a measure of excess medical coverage for the benefit of UBC Nursing students performing course work in environments where the risk of injury is greater than in a classroom, e.g., laboratories, clinical practice. It provides a $50,000 maximum benefit for death or dismemberment and a $5,000 excess medical coverage, e.g., ambulance, prescription drugs. The plan does not provide 24-hour coverage. It applies only during the time that the student is actually doing clinical practice.
