Clinical practice education is defined as that experience in or through acute, extended and community care agencies in which the student is engaged in direct nursing care with individuals or groups or is involved in laboratory learning (see the UBC School of Nursing Policy on Clinical Practice; http://www.nursing.ubc.ca/Current_Students/Policies/Clinical_Practice.htm).

According to the BC Academic Health Council website above, these Practice Education Guidelines were developed by the Practice Education Collaborative of BC (PECbc), with representation from BC health authorities, BC post-secondary education institutions, and HSPnet. PECbc led a project to develop standardized, inter-professional guidelines for health authorities, addressing policy issues relevant to clinical practice education. This work was enabled by and built upon substantial recent work at Vancouver Coastal Health.
