Welcome to the School of Nursing from the Nursing Undergraduate Society Council! The Nursing Undergraduate Society, NUS for short, is the nursing student body. All students automatically become members of NUS when they enroll at the UBC School of Nursing. The NUS Council is a group of people elected from the student body who oversee the programs and the services organized by NUS for the nursing students.
The NUS plans social events, offers student services, and participates along with faculty in promoting a first class academic environment.
Check out the Student Lounge. NUS also rents out lockers, produces a free student telephone directory, and arranges for Photo Identification for students entering the clinical setting. You can also use the computers in the Learning Resource Centre to access the Internet. And members of the NUS Council are available in the NUS office to answer questions and take your suggestions.
Nursing students at UBC are encouraged to be involved in decision making about curriculum changes, student/faculty relations, and academic affairs. NUS appoints students from all years of the program to represent the interests of students on student/faculty joint committees. This is a great way to gain some leadership and organizational skills, make a contribution to the school, and acquire a fabulous entry for your resume. To get involved or bring up an issue that concerns you, all you have to do is talk to an NUS Council member.
When you arrive at the School of Nursing, make plans to stop by the NUS office or at the Student Lounge where you will meet other students who will point you in the right direction and help you get off on the right foot toward completing a degree in Nursing. See you then!
If you have need to contact any of the NUS members, please email us at nusubc@gmail.com.
Please also visit the NUS website to stay up-to-date on all the information from our society. The site has photos, scholarship information, upcoming events, and much more. You can access the site through this link: NUS Website
Furthermore, undergraduate students of the School of Nursing also have access to the NUS Connect website, a forum for discussions, information source for events, and much more. That can be accessed by logging in to your Connect homepage with your CWL (Campus-Wide Login).
